Job Summary

Manages, coaches and develops Purchasing staff. Responsible for sourcing equipment, goods and services and managing vendors. Performs strategic procurement activities across multiple categories of spend, searches for better deals and finds more profitable suppliers.

Essential Duties

  • Manages, coaches and trains Purchasing staff. Conducts timely, complete and meaningful performance management conversations.
  • Oversees preparation of required documentation for each purchase order.
  • Manages invoice problems with vendors and accounting; delivery requirements with vendors and supervision; quality requirements with Engineering and Quality Control.
  • Expedites awarded purchase orders when necessary to ensure timely delivery.
  • Manages third party rental contracts and awards, renewals, and terminations.
  • Ensures data to maintain purchase orders is entered in the accounting system.
  • Maintains procurement documents in a systematic, retrievable manner.
  • Reviews field purchase orders, requisitions and bid summaries. Inspects all bid packages prior to distribution, to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Communicates and coaches internal customers on processes and procedures.
  • Corresponds with vendors regarding prices, product availability and delivery status. Follows up on orders to ensure that materials are shipped and delivered as originally promised.
  • Facilitates vendor bids, evaluates bids considering price delivery date, past performance of vendor, etc. to determine successful bidder. Negotiates with vendors for goods and services, ensuring the best possible price and service guarantee. Arranges terms/conditions of place purchase orders, and issues purchase change orders. Negotiates cash discounts, volume purchasing discounts and OEM pricing, etc.
  • Coordinates the release of submittal documentation from the supplier to the project manager and his team. Provides clear direction to the supplier regarding the correct format.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration or related field is preferred.
  • 6+ years.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Proven working experience as a Purchasing Manager or Purchasing Agent.
  • Familiarity with sourcing and vendor management.
  • A knack for negotiation and networking.
  • Working experience of vendor management software.
